Introduction
Registry monitor is a very powerful tool for monitoring and
controlling the changes inside the registry. The jv16 PowerTools'
registry monitor is a so called snapshot based monitor, this
means that you can create a snapshot from the registry and then
later on see what has changed in your registry.
Usage
Before you can do anything with the registry monitor you must
create a snapshot. This is done by starting the registry monitor
and clicking Take a new snapshot.
After you have created a snapshot you can then compare it to
the current state of the registry. You can do that by simply
selecting the snapshot and clicking Compare. When the compare
procedure is done you can see the list of changes, you can then
undo the changes or remove specific items.
The compare procedure requires a lot of processing power so
it might take a long time on a slow computer. On a relatively
fast computer it takes a few minutes. Notice that the procedure
isn't symmetric, this means that the progress bar will move
very slow at the beginning but its speed will eventually increase
when the procedure continues.
Note that the registry monitor will only monitor Reg_Sz, Reg_Expand_Sz
and Reg_Dword types of data. This is done for performance issues,
both the speed of snapshot creation and comparing but also to
keep the snapshot files reasonable small. |
